Puppy Pictures Friday

Since things around here are pretty slow and boring while we're waiting for Baby B, we may as well post adorable puppy pictures, yes? When I was going through the recent pictures, they all seem to revolve around napping and sleeping. Wonder where they they're learning that from?

The faces of two puppies earrrrly in the morning who are patiently waiting for their "yummy breakfast". Clem's eyes are pure desperation and Dixie's ears look like she has some mad bedhead.

After last week's bed fiasco, I finally busted out the new "throne" I got for Clem several weeks ago. When I originally brought the bed out, she freaked out at it and wouldn't stop barking. (You show that bed, Clem. You tell it.) But now, I think she's overcome her fear of the bed and seems to be enjoying it just fine. Thank you Costco for a cheap bed that my dog doesn't feel the need to attack.

But speaking of attacking beds, I texted Rich this picture one morning with the caption: "Daddeeee, I put my bed in a bed!" She's such a nester/lover and I kinda don't blame her for this genius idea. But how she dragged this out of her kennel and on to the bed, I don't know.

Dixie modeling a Halloween costume - specifically a hot pink fairy costume. Let's just say she was highly unimpressed and this one was promptly returned to the store. Next year, girls, next year...

Happy Un-Halloween

Mr. B and I aren't really the Halloween types. Don't get me wrong, we love a good costume party (scratch that, we just love a good party!) but the past few years have been "off-years" in terms of celebrating Halloween. Which means the off-years are starting to become the norm and Halloween seems to pass without a blink of an eye around here. Bummer. That really needs to change.

When we moved into our new digs last year, ALL the neighbors asked us what we were doing for Halloween. I thought they were just being nice and making small talk, but it turns out Halloween is a really big deal around these parts. Main Street is blocked off from all traffic; spooky luminaries line the streets and sidewalks, one neighbor sets up a haunted house in his barn, and the local farmers bring all the local kids in on their tractors / hayrides. It's totally awesome.

Last year, we sat out on the porch with a glass of wine and warm chicken soup, played Michael Jackson's Thriller on repeat and gave away full-size candy bars. (Here's how big of a deal it is around these parts: we gave away 150 full-size bars and still had to tap 4 bags in to our candy reserves!)

Even without little kiddies, we had a total blast looking at all the costumes and watching the kids run back and forth across the street to collect their treats. We saw a kid last year who tripped in our yard - he was of course fine - but we found his silver plastic gun this spring! Guess it got lost under leaves and snow and we didn't find it till everything cleared out. Too funny.

This year, Mr. B. is away (see tomorrow's blog post for more) and I'll be scaring the crap out of greeting the kiddos alone. I'm not sure I have time to score 150 bars this late in the game, but hopefully Target will still have some candy left. And not the crappy kind. I refuse to be that house that gives away the crappy candy.

Hope yall have a fun Halloween!

Halloween & The Frogs

Happy Veteran's Day!

If you're wondering why there haven't been any posts lately, well, I'm afraid it's because there's not much to report. Unless, you care about the new well tank, the endless quest to fix the toilet pipes and deciding a new color for the roof? As much as I'd like to say we've done some great decorating or found new furniture, it's just not the case.

Life lately has been hectic as we've been working late / traveling on the weekends / catching up on sleep. We've managed to stay on top of the urgent items: Well tank, check. Overflowing toilets, hopefully fixed for now. New roof, errrr, working on it. Who knew there were so many different colors for a roof?

Halloween was quite the treat for us. (Get it? Treat! As in trick-or-treat!!) From day one when we moved in, our neighbors had been telling us to stock up on candy and get ready for a Halloween like no other. At first, we didn't really take them seriously. Candy for 150+ kids? But it became apparent when every neighbor was telling us the same story that we should probably take this seriously.

Go Frogs!

Since we're in a rural area, the local families all bring their kids to our town to run up and down Main Street. And when I say come into town, I mean they haul them in on the back of tractors. It's really cute. The houses along the road put luminaries in the middle of the road and everyone decorates their porches. We sat out on the porch in our rocking chairs with our pumpkin, scary lighting (okay, just an orange bulb!), scary music, and gave out...wait for it...full size candy bars! I was convinced these poor kids were probably scared of the house so we needed to bribe them. And bribe them we did.

And I know I promised this blog would be primarily about the house, I can't resist the urge to talk about our trip to Utah last weekend. Yes, Salt Lake City, for the weekend.

The #3 Frogs played the #5 Utes, and Mr. and Mrs. B made the traveling team, along with Junior, who gets all the credit for the pictures to follow. The game was a beat down on the Utes. Final score? TCU 47, Utah 7. It may have been one of the best sporting events of my life. It was great to catch up with friends old and new and spend some time in the mountains. Here's to our next big road trip...hopefully a BCS bowl again!

Pre-game tailgating with Junior.

One of Junior's friends: "Wow, you're like the same person."

We were hugely outnumbered...

It's highly likely we scored a touchdown on this exact play.
It was just that kind of game.

White Out - free tshirts from the Alumni Tailgate to counter Utah's Black Out.
Can you tell they only had size larges?  I'm practically drowning in cotton.

The visitors section: cheering for a win.

Yes, that says Utah 7 - TCU 47.
Domination.

Check back ASAP for real house updates: The architects visited this morning. I can hardly contain my excitement!
