Something you wore

Day 7: Something you wore
#marchphotoaday

Taking glam to a whole new level

I'm sure 99% of the people who are participating in this March Photo-a-day challenge posted an adorable, night out on the town outfit for their photo. Me? Not so much. I'm talking houseslippers, workout socks and leggings. That's how I roll. And to be fair, I earned it right? An hour at bootcamp supposedly burns 500-600 calories. So I'd definitely earned my R&R time.

But honestly, who doesn't love houseslippers? I love coming home at the end of a tiring day, throwing my shoes across the room and getting snuggly with these slippers. I may or may not have them on right now.

This year for Christmas, Mama H Santa Claus surprised everyone with a new pair of houseslippers from LL Bean. The girls got the pair above (as pictured; but no longer available on the website?) and the boys got this pair. That Mama H Santa Claus is pretty smart! Not only are they great value, they had free shipping!

Day 6: 5pm

Dinner for two: sirloin steak, red potatoes, broccoli and red wine

Dinnertime with Mr. and Mrs. B ranges from easy casseroles and take-out to more lovingly prepared homecooked meals and English staples. I enjoy cooking but I don't go too far out of my comfort zone. (I swear, most of the recipes on epicurious seem like way to much work for me.) But there are a few staple meals that make the mix several times a month. And you guessed it, one of those is steak.

I love steak. I said it. And I'm not ashamed of it. PETA can blast me all they want, but I love a good chunk of meat.

Y'all, we even planned our honeymoon around steak. Well, that and wine. Steak and wine. If you're in to really good meat - I'm not talking just your average grocery meat counter stuff - but the best of the best, you just put your behind on a plane and head straight south for Argentina.

Not sure why this is so blurry but yours truly in Buenos Aires with a steak. I'm not kidding around.

There's a really good little organic grocery near us that has pretty nice steak and other meats. Not nearly as good as the little farm around the corner from us in PA, but I'll still recommend this new place. It's all grass-fed, free-range, antibotic and hormone free. (Yes, I have read the Omivore's Dilemma but I promise I'm not a food-wacko.) It's maybe a dollar or two more per pound than the grocery but every bite is worth it.

Sometimes I marinate, sometimes I don't. I always use my Le Creuset pan/grill when cooking steak inside. Hurry up summer so we can bust out the grill! The whole meal takes 20 minutes to prepare and is always satisfying. It's definitely our go-to meal.

Any other steak lovers out there?

Smile

Day 5: Smile
#marchphotoaday

Here's the smiley face I drew on my desk in class tonight. Shock, horror, I know y'all. I'm a no-good vandal but I did it in the name of the photo-a-day challenge. Hopefully it will bring some cheer to the next poor soul who has to sit here tomorrow!

And don't worry, it's only pencil, which means my catholic guilt will set in as soon as I post this. I'll scrub it off before the end of the night I'm sure.

My days (really, nights) in these classrooms are numbered because I only have a few (okay, several) more weeks of classes before graduation. That is serious cause for celebration and lots of smiles!

My Bedside Table

Day 4: My Bedside Table
#marchphotoaday

This picture is pretty much all you need to know about me in a nutshell. Books, glasses, charger, remote, eyemask, pearls, photo. Done-zo. The only thing missing was my Neosporin night lip balm. Oh you haven't tried it before? Get your tail to Target now and buy at least four of them. You can thank me later.

The fact that day 4 was bedside table was pretty fortuitous. Because bedside table = sleeping and I love sleeping. No doubt about it. I could sleep all day long. And I sometimes do. There's also a little white lie in this picture too, but not one that I can help! Remember that we're living in a furnished apartment right now, so this isn't really *my* bedside table. Soon enough.

Books: I'm currently reading Emma by Jane Austen and Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I'm a classics girl. I keep a journal of all the books I've read (well, since 2005) and it's mostly classics. Can't help it. The copy of Crime and Punishment is on loan from my mother. We both have plowed our way through Anna Karenina and War and Peace. Did I ever tell you guys about the time my freshman year of college I wanted to be a Russian History major? (I. Am. Weird.) The hardback copy of Jane Austen is part of a set I bought at Jane Austen's house in 2004. I was there with Lindsey and Marie and we laughed about how I lugged those damn hardback books all the way to London and then home. I'm glad I did though.

Glasses: I have two pairs of glasses. One for out and about, which you've seen all over this blog, and then this pair, which is strictly for nighttime at the house. Same prescription, just prefer to wear those at home.

Phone charger: Isn't it amazing how that little piece of technology is the first thing I see in the morning and the last thing I see at night? Two truths: alarm clock in the morning and most likely wikipedia at night. (If I can't sleep I read wikipedia, generally does the trick!) Thank you Steve Jobs for changing the world for the better!

Remote: I don't like watching TV in bed, but sometimes I do. The remote probably shouldn't even be in this picture, but, where else would it live but the bedside table?

Eyemask: You can make fun of me all you like, but I sleep 3 or 4 nights a week with that bad boy on. And it makes such a difference. I'm not a fussy sleeper, but I like how it makes the room completely black and I have no choice but to shut my eyes and go to sleep. Mr. B bought me that one a few years ago.

Pearls: My favorite accessory ever. Some nights I don't even bother to take them off. (Why? I'm just going to put them on again in the morning. But then I feel dumb when I realize I'm sleeping in pearls. That's sort of lame.) I have a few pairs. This one is my day-to-day pair, but I also bust out the pair Mr. B gave me for our wedding when I'm feeling extra special.

Photo: And last, but certainly not least, is a photo of Mr. B and me on safari in Kenya in 2006. We had an amazing time - by far the best vacation we've taken together - and I would recommend it to anyone. Lions, Giraffes, Hippos, Jaguars, Monkeys, oh my! We're going to have to take another one someday because this was before we had a real DSLR camera and we were just using a crappy point-and-click the entire time. Right after this trip I bought Mr. B a proper camera.

Yep. That's me in a nutshell. Any questions?

My neighbo(u)rhood

Day 3: My Neighbo(u)rhood
#marchphotoaday

I took a little creative license with this one since we hardly spent a minute today in our real neighborhood. We took a long road trip to do some shopping and stumbled upon this little gem in an outlet store. Needless to say, when I saw this, I knew this was my neighborhood.

This print is perfect because it has all the little neighborhoods in London but there's one in particular, which you've probably never heard of, but is near and dear to Mr. B. and me.

It's Clerkenwell - the neighborhood where we met in London. (For reference, you need to know that we met on my first night in London. And Mr. B was only in Clerkenwell by complete chance. You could say the stars were aligned for us.)

Isn't that crazy? It's a pretty unassuming place. It's certainly not one of the more famous areas like Soho, Hyde Park or Notting Hill. But it made this print. And I love it.

Fruit

Day 2: Fruit
#marchphotoaday

Breakfast of Champions: oatmeal with blueberries & raspberries and a side of cuties.

Normally I prefer vegatables to fruit but lately I've been incorporating it into my breakfasts and it makes a big difference. Mr. B loves raspberries so I try to have those in the house as much as possible. I love cuties because they're easy to peel (I may or may not be a little lazy with things like this) and super refreshing.

Put the two together, plus some instant oatmeal (maple and brown sugar) and I had a pretty filling, healthy and colorful breakfast.

A little present for a friend all wrapped up. Just need to pack and ship.
I hope she likes it!

March Photo A Day Challenge

I've never participated in a "photo-a-day" challenge before - if you're a regular reader here you'll know that's an obvious statement since some of my photography can be, well, lacking - but there's a first time for everything!

I stumbled upon this March challenge, hosted by Fat Mum Slim, from my friend April over at A Liz Adventures.

I'm already a day behind - again, no surprise there - but I'll be posting my photos on Instagram (follow me! I'm kahb) and here (follow me! Oh wait, you already do! Then tell your friends!)

Goodness knows what I'm going to come up with but I'm going to give it my best. At least I'll have something to post about for the next month!
