All work and no play...

...makes Mrs. B a bad blogger!

Forgive the silence the past few weeks.  We were on such a roll with the house, and suddenly things just stopped.  Between our full-time jobs, my MBA classes and all the other things in life that take up time, we've been a little behind with, well, everything.

The guest bedroom is still on track.  One more major hurdle to clear - repainting the wood trim - and then it's time for decorating. This project has taken a lot more time and effort.  Last weekend we cleaned, sanded, cleaned, sanded, cleaned... you get the point, so that all the surfaces are ready to go this weekend for painting.  I made friends with the local Benjamin Moore guy to talk about using oil-based paint and all I can say is this is going to be a hot-mess.  But what's new.

We've made an executive decision to skip on the flooring in the room for now.  We want to do the entire upstairs at once and since it's a. not feasible money-wise right now and b. doesn't make sense because we may be changing the floorplan upstairs... well its going to be a large, pretty area rug for the short-term.

All of this has to get done soon because Mama H. is coming to visit again in March and she needs a room to stay in.  My list of projects to work on with her when she's here is ever growing, and this time Mr. B. will be around to help too.

In the meantime, here's a goody we found at Brown Bros. Auction a few weeks ago.  I'm going to recover it once I have a fabric in mind for the guest bedroom.  Oh, and please, don't let the carpet distract you too much.

Updates soon on the kitchen.  And by updates, I mean let me tell you about the latest roadblocks!

  2. Noooooooooo....do not use oil based paint! The VOCs are sooooo bad for youAND the environment. In fact, they are not even sold in California. Ask for the no VOC paint. No smell nor carcigens which is better for you and your hubby.

  3. Arlene - the VOC point hadn't even hit home until you! Leave it to the green guru but I'm so glad you mentioned it. I didn't even connect the dots when the guy at the store warned me of the smell (um duh?!) For once there is an upside to behind in a project - I can return the bad stuff and get the good stuff now! Thanks!!!!
