Road trip

As much as we love our humble little abode, we needed a weekend away. The last few weeks have been all about the house. Which was great, because we're making progress....toward what goal I have no clue, but it feels like progress.

We packed up the car on Friday afternoon and headed to Ithaca, NY. Mr. B. had a work event there on Friday night so we decided to make a weekend of it. I tell you what, I'm glad we did.

Spring is just starting to spring there (daffs are just blooming!) and we lucked out with sunshine and warm-ish weather. Our B&B was right next to Taughhanock Falls so we spent Saturday morning walking around the falls.

Not too shabby for a Saturday morning.

But I'd be lying if I said the scenery was the "real" purpose of the visit. So we fast-forwarded through the pretty walk and got down to business.

The Finger Lakes have a kickin little wine thing going on and you better believe we did our share of tasting. Some friends recommended we start at Sheldrake Point and we were not disappointed. (And honestly, I was a little dubious. I like good wine. And I'm not ashamed to say it. So really unless we're talking France or Italy you're going to have to sell me. And that includes you California. But this was surprisingly good.)

Sheldrake's Simply Red Bistro did not disappoint either. In fact, it was one of the better cheese/charcuterie boards we've tried in the US. And we've tried a lot. (And if you want to know what we miss most about London - it's good cheese and meats. Mmmm.)

For all of you who love my before and after pictures, I'm taking it to a new level:

Cheese & Charcuterie before.
Sorry you can't see all the meats hidden behind the bread!

Cheese & Charcuterie after.
Yum.

We napped in the sunshine on the rocking chairs on the porch, watched the Masters, ate more excellent food and drank more excellent wine and got in a great run / one more view of the falls before heading home.

I managed to bring a little Texas with me and turn a few heads while I was at it. What the heck was with the stares Ithaca people? They're cowgirl boots. And I wear them well.

Here's to another Monday of wishing it was still the weekend!

  1. Your weekend looks like it was heavenly! I have a weird love of cheese boards. Every single one I come across in magazines, I tear out. And I've never actually made one of them. I just love looking at them. I've got cheese issues! Glad you both had a little getaway!
