Girls Weekend Recap

You know you've been away from blogging for too long when people are asking on facebook whether I actually returned from my girls weekend. As much as I wanted to stay there, with Marie and Lindsey, at the spa, doing nothing, forever and ever, the girls weekend had to come to an end. Part of my procrastination in putting off this post (and getting back into a regular blogging habit) was because it would mean the weekend was really over.

We had a fantastic weekend. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for more. Well, maybe a few things: another day, a little warmer weather and an unlimited pocket to feed our shopping habits, but that's just getting greedy.

It was the type of weekend that's good for the soul. And I'm not a soul-searching type of person. It's pretty special when you can spend a few days with girls who know you inside and out, talk about everything under the sun (and I really mean everything) for hours and hours and hours and not have to worry about what awaits you when you get back to the real world.

Believe it or not, I really only have one picture to share from the entire weekend. And it's not even a really good one! Lindsey did her best to capture the memories through the weekend, but frankly, we devoured our food and drinks before we could get any good pictures, and all of Saturday was spent in the spa so pictures were a no-go there.

Lindsey arrived on Friday afternoon and Marie had a nightmare getting out of New York so by the time we were all finally settled at the hotel, it was well past 11pm. We rallied and spent the next four hours chatting in the room with a bottle of wine. You'd have thought we hadn't all been together in two years. Oh wait.

Saturday was spa day. And spa we did. Five hours of this: get a glass of cucumber water, talk, get massages, repeat cucumber water, head to the steam room, talk, leave steam room and find comfy chair by whirlpool and read, try whirlpool and talk, more cucumber water and talking, return to comfy chair, take nap, wake up and talk, return to steam room to talk, more cucumber water, return to comfy chair, get in whirlpool and talk, cucumber water, comfy chair and nap, wake up and talk. I think you get the point.

Saturday night was dinner, drinks and more talking. We were so engrossed in our conversations we failed to see the restaurant was empty and ready to close, so we continued the talking back in the room with our PJ's and wine.

Sunday was an amazing brunch followed by us scouting out a lovely outdoor shopping mall to pass the time before heading to the airport. (BTW, if you're in Birmingham, we highly recommend The Summit for shopping.) Then it was near tearful goodbyes at the airport and off we went. I made it home in time for Downton Abbey (oh what, we haven't TALKED about this?) and then it was back to reality on Monday.

We're already busy planning the next few trips. With all that talking, we came up with a list a mile long of places to go and things to see, with and without husbands, for at least the next 10 years. Here's to many more girls weekends!

  4. How much fun. Asheville has a great spa at the Grove Park Inn ... just sayin. ;)

And did you know that whenever I go to Birmingham for work, I always stay down the road from The Summit and pay it a visit? I've purchased some really fun finds there, including the dress I wore in Charleston on NYE!
